Ted Olsen and Joe Strachan
Live in Concert
Thursday, May 23rd from 7:00-9:00 PM
The duo offers up their swinging and conversational take on the Great American Songbook and jazz standards. Performing steadily since 2011, they’ve developed an earnest and inspired reparteé. Olsen and Strachan were the house band at Angelina’s Kitchen for 4 years and have also been featured at Icehouse, Vieux Carré, Capella Tower, St. Croix Vineyards, as well as in larger ensembles all around the Twin Cities.
Joe Strachan (piano) performs frequently in a variety of genres including jazz (Graydon Peterson Quartet, Adam Meckler Orchestra), salsa (Charanga Tropical, Twin Cities Latin Jazz Orchestra), and R&B (Mina Moore). He also has worked extensively with TU Dance, accompanying dance styles from ballet to modern.
His compositions have been featured on dance pieces, with the modern jazz quartet Courageous Endeavors, and most recently on Mina Moore’s début EP “Amongst Ourselves”
Ted Olsen (bass) released his début album as a bandleader in 2017 on Shifting Paradigm Records. Entitled “Joyfire” it contains 10 original compositions. In 2018 it was chosen by Hennepin County Libraries to be included in “MNSpin,” their local music streaming service.
Ted was an alternate in the 2019 International Society of Bassists’ Jazz Competition and a finalist in the 2015 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer awards.
Locally he plays with a variety of stellar artists including: Dean McGraw, Bryan Nichols, Javier Santiago, Nelson Devereaux, Champagne Confetti, and the Minnesota Hard Bop Collective.
